HAA were approached by the owners to design a replacement dwelling and led the project from concept through to tender stage. The existing dwelling was tired in appearance and in a poor state of repair and did not capitalise on the site’s potential. The brief was to design a family home suitable for entertaining guests. The context and locality of the area suited an arts and craft exterior whereas the inside a more contemporary approach was taken. The replacement dwelling was aligned with the site’s axis and took advantage of the unique views of the valley beyond. The demolition phase of the project was carefully programmed in accordance with the bat mitigation measures. Bat boxes and roost spaces within the building were also provided so to enhance the ecology of the site.
