Jonathan Heighway

Principal Architect RIBA

Jono founded Heighway Associates Architects (HAA) in September 1996! We are 28 YEARS OLD this year!!!

Prior to this he had a successful career at Nabil Fanous Architects in London.

Jono’s education started at the Polytechnic of North London receiving a First Class Part 1 Hons Degree, following that a Post graduate Diploma at Kent Institute of Art and Design Part 2 and Professional Practice Part 3 at South Bank University.

He was elected to the ARB in 1996 and the RIBA in January 1997.

Before choosing a career on the ‘drawing’ side of the industry Jono worked on building sites and joinery shops. Because of this he understands and more importantly respects the complexities of any building project and the value that each ‘trade’ brings to the table.

Jono meets potential new clients to explain the process and collaborations required to deliver a successful project.

Aside from his day-to-day business duties (BAB: Being A Boss he calls it) he is involved with the front-end sketch and design stage, (Jono’s ability to produce beautifully turned out sketches are our teams favourite) he has a wealth of knowledge on our local plans and policies and navigates the complicated planning system and rear end contract administration working with building contractors and specialist suppliers.

In the last couple of years, he realised how important general fitness and wellbeing is!! You will often find him embracing Yoga, HIT, running and cycling- all this aside from sailing his classic yacht Muriel (built in 1905) which he plans to sail around Britain in the 2024 with The Old Gaffers Association.

Jono oversees all the HAA projects. One of his most rewarding projects is ‘Scribbler’s Last’. A new home in Devon designed by his late architect father Paul Heighway. It was built under the direction of Jono and Jason, it was then named in memory of Paul.
