Nick Hutsteiner

Senior Architect RIBA

Nick studied at the Technical University of Vienna and the Universita’ La Sapienza in Rome, followed by his RIBA Part 3 examination in Professional Practice at the Architectural Association in London. He became a UK registered and RIBA Chartered Architect in 2004.

His working life began as a paid intern in a small practice in Vienna whilst still a student, and after studies in Rome he landed a job in Dubai to work on the luxury ‘Al Maha’ desert resort, complete with tented roofs and jacuzzis in the middle of the desert – a mind-boggling experience after heritage studies of baroque churches.

Nick then worked at KSR Architects in North London for several years on apartment blocks and high end single residential projects. A highlight was when Arsenal players Thierry Henry and Robert Pires showed up to view a penthouse he had designed in Hampstead whilst he was snagging the works.

Back to Dubai with a new family in tow to work on beach resorts and hotels and many other weird and wonderful projects in the region for a design & build developer-contractor, from schools in Mumbai to a ski resort in northern Azerbaijan to a block of luxury flats in Dar es Salaam. Eventually Nick returned to the UK in 2015, where he worked for Lyons Seeman Hoare Architects on some very large residential-led developments in Bristol and Farnham before re-discovering his love for smaller ‘gems’ of projects – which he hopes and intends to achieve at HAA. He enjoys all aspects of design, form early-stage research of the context and setting of a project to concept design and detailing almost at 1:1 scale.
